Living with our past

We came across a piece of lip training device that have been scientifically proven to solve a few issues. Oya the director for Parataka lip trainer explained the importance of para-sympathetic nervous control with sympathetic nervous control in our body. He share with us how 3-4 times training of our lips with their patented lip trainer can help reduce snoring after a couple of weeks, reduce morning dry throat syndrome, choking syndrome etc.

This lip trainer acts to strengthen some facial muscles which leads to training the para-sympathetic nervous system. With the strengthen facial muscles, it opens up the airways to the nasal pathways, increasing blood flow to the brain. As a result, one will wake up feeling fresher.

He also explained why some people have sudden quicken heart rates, this is due the the drop in oxygen levels to the brain and therefore the brain tells the heart to beat faster to increase the blood flow thereby increasing the oxygen levels to the brain. We all know that oxygen is require to sustain our very complex neural system. Otherwise, we'll be vegetables, brain dead.

This device is said to reduce high blood pressure, reduce snoring at night, reduce frequency to the bathroom, reduce choking syndrome, improve Alzheimer's disease, down syndrome, autism, speech and many more.

More information can be found here.

Why Living with our past as the title of this blog?

Because we came across this device together with Godma. Godpa left us last Nov, some of the difficulties he was experiencing were swallowing food. This lip trainer would have given him more relief from eating his favourite food if he had used it. Godma was once again saddened. You can sense that disappointment of WHY din we find this earlier?

Once a person leaves us, we cannot turn back the clock. There'll be endless times when we asks ourselves why din we do something for that person. Why din we come across something earlier.

We are only human. Only we ourselves know whether we've done beyond our best in any occasions. God knows that too! And He knows us before we know ourselves. Its all part of God's plan for each of our experiences, be it good or bad. We pass on what we've learnt and pray that our loved ones would not commit the same mistakes that we did. And if after trying our best, they still do, we can only interpret it as part of God's plan for them. It is not for us or anyone to decide what another person does. We can only do our best for them.

And when we've done our best, we'll have to learn to stop torturing ourselves with all the "what ifs". Instead, learn to really widen our horizons and move on. Focus on what's ahead, what's important.

God, I pray for strength to carry on each day, looking forward to what You have put in place for me. I know that You will not let me walk alone in the dark shadows nor leave alone to face adversities. God I pray that you'll give us wisdom to learn what is important and what is not for our days ahead. God I also pray that you'll hug my father's soul tightly and I take comfort that he is with You. For all the things that I did and did not do for my father, I ask for Your forgiveness. Please grant us peace in our days.

PC Show 11-14th June 2009

Its time for Singaporeans to show off how much they can spend again!

I'm always amused at how much electronics, gadgets that Singaporeans can swallow every quarter at the PC Show or PC Fair. So what's on your shopping list this June?

Dun forget to check out all the prices before going for the PC Show. The prices may dip a little at the show, but sure ASK for FREE GIFTS! Plus, the deals usually get GREATER on the last day if you are prepared to face the SEA of people trying to grab the best deals as well. But its always fun to go soak in the RICH atmosphere of watching others make a great bargain. Keeps our minds away from the brutal reality of the poor economy (or what's left of it)

If you dun wish to squeeze with the thousands at the PC Show, then head down to Sim Lim Sq or Funan Center, they'll match the fair prices & offers as well. Found this trick to be useful as these normally very crowded places, will be empty and deserted!

Enjoy!

Carpark Sensors

You know those electronic sign boards that show how many parking lots are available within each car park?

They used to be a rarity and maybe even a novelty? Today, they are everywhere! Perhaps accounting for a large portion of the INCREASES of the parking charges since they all need to be fed with electricity and we all know that fuel prices increase = increase in the cost of electricity....

I used to be curious how do these sensors work, I bet my mum is still trying to figure that out... technology is just too incomprehensible for her (she's still trying to understand what sms and internet really mean... hahaha... I dun blame her, she came from the generation where they have to get water from the well, then they have piped water at village chef's compound, they used to sew, read, cook in kerosene lamps and then they had lights! they used to spread information by the word of mouth and then they had radio!! and black/white tv and now LCD tv.... If I were in her shoes, I would have given up trying to understand technology long ago... but wait, isnt that what she has done?? hahahhahaha)

So one day, when we did not have to dash into the car and rush off from the car park, we finally figured out how it works! hee hee

There's a sensor that detects if there's anything underneath it. Must be some sort of light/frequency/infra-red stuff.. if the signal is blocked, then its "thinks" that there's a car in the lot.

This sensor is linked to a green/red light at the front of the lot. So that we can just glance along the row of the car park and quickly find the green lights for available parking lot!

The sensor is also linked to some central panel where it will calculate how many available lots are there in each level of the car park. Quite cool hor?

How did we find out all these????

just stand under the sensor lor.... hahahhaha

got me my 3G iPhone!

yahoo!!!!!!!

never knew I was going to get it tonight, came as a surprise to me when Ad told me in the afternoon that we ARE going to the launch of the 3G iPhone tonight... or rather the very 1st min of 22nd of August!

We alighted along Killiney Road and the people queuing to get into the building for their phone for the min past midnight is CRAZILY long! It was 1140pm at night!!! Why are there hundreds of Singaporean in the queue for a phone?

There were giant screens doing countdown..... just to ensure that the crowd has a fair idea of how long more is their long awaited iPhone going to reach their hands hee....

Oops, round the bend, there was ANOTHER queue! This time they were queuing infront of a new structure that looked like the NY Apple Cube which has been replicated in many countries subsequently....

These folks looked HOT under the tentage, no one would believe that its almost midnight here.... the heat is ON!
Has there been any company out there who dares to pull a stunt like this? Launching at midnight and expecting a crowd+media+cab support? Never! Even the cab driver who took us home was asking us a million question about the iPhone even about WHEN is he going to get HIS iPhone... considering that he just placed his order last Fri.... I think maybe much later! Taxi uncle was asking about surfing on the iPhone, dun play play! iPhone is really opening up the internet world to so many MORE! Cool!

Here's the "cube"

Its wrapped up like a giant present with lots of new 3G iPhones inside.... *slurp*

Following a countdown and the "unwrapping" of the cube-present, there were fireworks on the roof! That kinda thrilled us for a while hee... but you can sense that the crowd really just want to get their hands on the iPHONE! *hurry*

And the 1st guy who registered for the iPhone in Singapore got his goodie! This lucky chap was the focus of many many cameras, video-cameras, mobile phone cameras and the envy of MANY! For him, his wait started in June!

Applause for this lucky dude!

As for me, I din go home empty handed as well.... I got meself a new 3G iPhone too!! hee... not too bad for a night's out *wink*
anyone wanna borrow my new 3G iPhone?

Bye Bye & HELLOOOOOOOOO

It was a bitter week of struggle to let go of our dearest phone.... we wept, sweat and finally had to say goodbye to a very useful, helpful pal. Which has given many kids happy laughter with its photo-altering software, many great conversations were built by just bringing this gadget out.....

but it was time to say good bye...

THEN, we flipped through the papers and peered at every single telco to check out what their offers were.... we went down to M1 shop at about 130pm on a Sat afternoon. (many M1 customers will tell us that we are very brave to spend our Sat afternoon at M1 where the wait in the queue is typically 3hrs.... we were mentally prepared to wait.... surprisingly, there was NO QUEUE! Darn! That messed up with our plans of getting the queue number and take our lunch while waiting... now we'll have to do the buying first! on empty stomach! *annoyed* hahahahhaa.... at not having a queue to wait in.... hahahaha)

So after many examinations, we decided to RE-adopt the Nokia technology into our family.....
Well, Nokia's mobile phones hasn't been ground-breaking in the recent years, their camera phones usually have lower quality picture, video sucks, user interface never changed in the past decade.... there's really nothing very exciting about a Nokia phone. (to me at least....)

So we found N6220!

However, Ad insisted on a GPS phone (because he has this sense of NEED to know where he is and where he is going... pls dun ask me WHY! Maybe its from the years of bringing the street directory in his bag daily....)

Okay, the boy is happy with his new toy again.... his fingers were siamesely-linked to his mobile for the last 24hrs... even during mass! hahaha..... all because of THIS:

Boys and their toys! *sigh*

Wii Wii Wii All The Way Home

Yes, you can guess from our title that Wii have invested in the latest Nintendo craz.... Wii game set!

When I first saw the games in the set, I thought that the graphics interface were not as amazing as the Xbox or the PS. HOWEVER, after owning it, I love it! It doesnt go for the realistic 3D line but instead, the games that we have are fun, nonsensical ones hee....

Yeah, Dance Dance Revolution! I've been looking for a home version of this game since I see young kids dancing their way to a hippy waist... I shy lah, so I made Ad buy it for me. hee. Its really tough to master the moves! I think I need to find the cheat codes for it hahaha

What is a game of boxing without some friends??

You are guaranteed a super workout after 3rounds of boxing.... I promise you, this is a very good workout that comes with the basic set of Wii Sports when you purchase the game console. I still have yet to figure out how to bat at the baseball, anyone care to join me in a game of baseball? hee...

Wii Fit is a game that has rocked the world since its released in Japan. When the US set was launched, we fought HARD for our set too! hee.... (sorry Jr :P)

Yes, you will sweat it out with this series of Yoga, Strength Training, Aerobics and Balance games. I love the Yoga and Aerobics. It has a personal trainer who will lead through each posture or exercise. Best of all, it helps to correct your posture! We both have bad posture when it comes to standing or sitting, standing on one leg, wrong center of gravity placed on the foot which leads to slouching and backaches. There's also a tracking feature on it to record your progress! A real good investment!

Here's our friend YL playing soccer...

Our latest investment is..... Mario Kart!
Very fun game! Lots of interesting courses and funny stunts you can pull on each other... *cant stop laughing*

There's another MUST HAVE game called Rayman Raving Rabbids. Its a series of ultra silly games, best played with 4players, its out of this world games is definitely a great way to end a stressful hectic day with some laughter! HA HA HA

Introducing Linus!

Yes in addition to Lucy, here's LINUS!

My dream mobile phone has been added to our collection of electronics and gadgets at home. And certainly it is one of the BEST mobile phones that I've ever had. Simply because its got a fantastic camera feature of 5megapix.

Ha ha ha

Here's what Linus did on our short walk about the neighbourhood...

I've always wanted to capture a picture of this recycling bin, it usually filled to the brim with bags and plastic bottles. However, one morning, I noticed that all the big plastic bottles around it were gone, yet the bin is still FULL of the other recycling trash. Strange hor? Looks like someone is taking the recycling waste for themselves!

Cant see clearly? Here's a better shot after using iPhoto to "enhance" it with the magic ward.

Okok, I know I need more practise with this camera, i mean phone, i mean camera phone... see i'm confused. There are quite a few selections to this camera mode, so gotta practise abit MORE.

Next I climbed to a higher ground, attempting to capture more images, wondering if the shutter will take in the light from sources further away...

looks decent eh?

Then, I found a young, model, without her permission hee hee... I snapped pictures of her like a paparazzi (must practise to see if I can work fast!) Surprisingly, the camera response time is pretty fast unlike the previous Sony Ericsson mobile phone cameras which I've used.

I have yet to test out the 9frames/sec shots on a real model, tried it on myself and the results are definitely not nice cos of the choice of model.

I am having so much fun with the camera phone that I even took pictures of me "processing" my dinner ha ha ha...

here's a video of how I'm thawing my dinner hee hee... yes, as you can tell, i'm darn bo liao!

What makes Linus truly amazing is that it can take pictures, videos and any function until its last bits of juice. I took a 2min long video clip when it was at 3% of its battery life, even with the low battery warning, it still allows me to continue filming and viewing the clip. Right till its last bits of juice!

Previous models have alot of restrictions on minimum battery life when using the camera functions on the phone.

More things I like about this phone:
1. it has an addition shortcut key in addition to the 4 (top, bottom, left & right) shortcut keys which are usually used for sms, calender, contact list & alarm. I set the profiles, sound record and bluetooth on this additional shortcut key, extremely easy for me to access these functions.

2. its radio reception is of very high quality. It can receive FM transmission in places which my iPod add-on radio receiver experience break ups especially in the lift. I'm surprised! Next time gotta try it in the trains ha ha...

3. Its ultra easy to access its camera & video functions with the buttons and shortcut keys on its side. works almost like a normal digital camera! *sweet*

4. it does seamless bluetooth connection with my Peppermint! (ok this one requires alot more story telling)
In most of my previous mobile phones, the most painful process of acquiring a new mobile phone is the transfer of the contact list. In the earlier models of mobile phones, they have functions to copy all the phone numbers onto the sim card and I used to do that transfer 250contacts at a time. Then when it came to my Samsung E730, it does not have this feature! I cant even copy any of the phone contact to the sim card! aiyo so painful! I tried so many times to bluetooth the contact list over to Peppermint but only partial of the list are transferred. So sad hor!

I was determined to get the contact list sorted out right this time. Hence, I spend one whole afternoon, or was it day... to painfully, go through the 400 contacts on my list and sort them out accordingly. When they were all sorted out nicely on Peppermint. I did the bluetooth magic and everything, I mean EVERYTHING, Every single one of my contact went over to Linus!

Now isnt that just perfect? *muaks* I LOVE BLUETOOTH technology! also all photos, videos, music were transferred using the bluetooth option at the rate of 100kb/s. quite fast hor?

5. its got a great size, not too bulky like the N95 (which has a newer model that comes with 8Gb harddisk space internally, so you wont have to depend on the memory cards, but for that size? like a brick? how to fit it into my tiny purses?) Yep for its size, its easy to hold onto it, not too tiny which might slip out of your hands while you are trying to take a snap at something. I saw a guy holding onto the ultra slim K something mobile phone on the train, he looked like his fingers were going to have a cramp from having to press it to his ears so hard! ha ha ha

6. It has a SOS feature where you can make use of its light from the camera to flash the emergency SOS light signal to get help in times of need! Now isnt that cool???

7. it has everything that I ever wanted in a phone! yeah! I am loving it!
