Dashes of snow

Light dashes of snow always remind me of the 1st time we experienced snow together on the eve of Christmas.

That magical feeling of snow, lightly touching your face is so memorable.

And guess what? Its snowing on my dashboard today!

got me my 3G iPhone!

yahoo!!!!!!!

never knew I was going to get it tonight, came as a surprise to me when Ad told me in the afternoon that we ARE going to the launch of the 3G iPhone tonight... or rather the very 1st min of 22nd of August!

We alighted along Killiney Road and the people queuing to get into the building for their phone for the min past midnight is CRAZILY long! It was 1140pm at night!!! Why are there hundreds of Singaporean in the queue for a phone?

There were giant screens doing countdown..... just to ensure that the crowd has a fair idea of how long more is their long awaited iPhone going to reach their hands hee....

Oops, round the bend, there was ANOTHER queue! This time they were queuing infront of a new structure that looked like the NY Apple Cube which has been replicated in many countries subsequently....

These folks looked HOT under the tentage, no one would believe that its almost midnight here.... the heat is ON!
Has there been any company out there who dares to pull a stunt like this? Launching at midnight and expecting a crowd+media+cab support? Never! Even the cab driver who took us home was asking us a million question about the iPhone even about WHEN is he going to get HIS iPhone... considering that he just placed his order last Fri.... I think maybe much later! Taxi uncle was asking about surfing on the iPhone, dun play play! iPhone is really opening up the internet world to so many MORE! Cool!

Here's the "cube"

Its wrapped up like a giant present with lots of new 3G iPhones inside.... *slurp*

Following a countdown and the "unwrapping" of the cube-present, there were fireworks on the roof! That kinda thrilled us for a while hee... but you can sense that the crowd really just want to get their hands on the iPHONE! *hurry*

And the 1st guy who registered for the iPhone in Singapore got his goodie! This lucky chap was the focus of many many cameras, video-cameras, mobile phone cameras and the envy of MANY! For him, his wait started in June!

Applause for this lucky dude!

As for me, I din go home empty handed as well.... I got meself a new 3G iPhone too!! hee... not too bad for a night's out *wink*
anyone wanna borrow my new 3G iPhone?

MacBook Air!

so its true after all... the ultra thin, ultra small size portable is back on its feet again!

I'm glad I stayed up for this.... made the day of celebration ending with a bang.. so now, I can say what I really really want for my birthday... *hint* *hint* ha ha ha

here's a transcript from The Mac Observer

[1:12 PM] Using 1.8" drives, the same drive that ships in some iPods. Has a 64 GB solid state drive, too!! Wow! Otherwise, an 80GB drive.

The motherboard is TINY!

Comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo, one of them, at 1.6GHz. There's a 1.8 GHz option, too. Said they went to Intel to get that processor 60% smaller than before, which is what made the MacBook Air possible. Paul Otellini, CEO of Intel, is on stage.

[1:12 PM] You can rotate photos, move windows, scroll through large images, etc. You can pan left and right through photos with three fingers. You can also use the iPhone's pinching gesture to enlarge and shrink an image.

[1:08 PM] Full sized keyboard, full sized screen. THIN! Steve said it's, "The world's thinnest notebook."

Has 13.x inch display with LED backlighting. Damn thing has an iSight camera built into it. Steve said it's the best keyboard they've ever shipped.

Has ambient light sensor with lit keys.

Has multitouch/gesture trackpad.

[1:08 PM] I think I told a couple of people I thought the rumor sites were wrong on this one, the MacBook Air, and clearly I was wrong.

It's a super thin MacBook. Steve said it doesn't compromise on performance. It's also 0.16 inches thick at it's thinnest. At it's thickest, it's 0.76 inches. It will fit inside one of those large yellow envelopes that many offices use. In fact, turns out there was one on Steve's desk this whole time in such an envelope. It's THIN!

Window-fied Peppermint

Peppermint is adapting well to her new OS sitting on a partitioned harddisk (10Gb) which was already sufficient to run some of the heavy duty softwares which I had to install to do some of my research analysis.

Peppermint truly surprised me with her versatility of adopting a new OS without any hinges.

I kept the Windows program on via VMware Fusion program on my desktop for the past week with frequent usage, switching between the Mac & Windows platform seamlessly.

Impressive, this experience has debunked all the previous myths of hanging, bugs etc....

Peppermint Rocks!

Did You Know??

That there is only 140g difference in the weight between the MacBook & the MacBook Pro???

All this while I was thinking that my Peppermint is feather-light weight in comparison with Ad's mambo jambo MacBook Pro... however our bags doesnt seems to show that huge difference.

Ad usually attribute it to the amount of "junk" in my bag.... but hor, he's usually got MORE junk than I do... so finally after some close inspection at the spec sheets, the truth is out....

New Mac, iLife08 and who knows what?

woah its so exciting trying to catch what's happening Live @ Cupertino. But the feeds are coming in too slowly for me. Its exciting enought to read about the new Mac that comes with wireless bluetooth keyboard and mouse. way cool!

iLife has new iPhoto called events! which makes so much sense!! let's hope that its backend system is less messy then the current iPhoto.

catch updates at TUAW, The Apple Store, Engadget, Mac OS Rumours, Gizmodo Live, SlashGear, The Mac Observer.

Still got lots more to unfold. Jobs is way cool!!

What happens if Apple takes over other consumer market?

This is a series of innovative ideas that might jolt Job's creative juices to just burst out of the computer & iPhone market hee... courtesy of some other creative juices, came in an email, sources untraceable. But definitely not the work of a local.

How about ironing? hee... so cool iRon cute name, I might name my Philips iron as Ron from the next time i use it hehe

A damaging device? I doubt this will ever get into Job's list of to-dos.

hee hee... this is such a cheeky product but might prove useful for geeks! will come with a video on how to use it effectively. user forums to discuss its effectiveness against STDs, unwanted pregnancies and possibly bringing the 99.9% effectiveness of current rubber to 99.99999999999999% Might come free with ever iPod/Mac purchased? hee

ooh, nice device, will record the number of skips that you have done, how many of it that you actually did it correctly (as most of us have our legs tangled up when we do rope skipping), it may contain a sweat detector to make sure that you are really exercising and not just fooling around with the rope. Might have the built in chip to tell you how much calories that you've burnt. Will retail cheaper than Nike+ for sure! hee

This device has been rumoured for YEARS yes YEARS, we have yet to see it being launched. But its a nice nudge to remind Job's that the consumers are interested in another neat gadget that they can wear on their arms besides the iPods to show that they are in the Cool Dudes League. Might come with inter-changable colorful straps to suit the dress code of the day. 2nd version should come with color screen.

iPottie! hahaha... super cool device to bring the home to a true Tech home! Imagine the pottie reading out news to you or playing the radio, maybe should include a mini projector device to project news on a wall facing the person using it. We can use the remote to control pages, volume, content etc. Cool Shit!

Going Green? That is so boring, This colorful Apple looks alot more appetising and attractive. Almost like a candy! Cant wait to pop it into my mouth!

Ahh finally, a truely innovative kitchen solution to stubborn stains, ugly residues, environmentally friendly, non-toxic cleaners, milk and bottles. The solution to all our kitchen problems! I cannot wait for this to happen! I can almost believe that if Apple were EVER going to launch this series of products, they will most definitely have them tested, tested and tested so rigourously that it'll pass all the world's standards and beyond. Jobs, think about it??

This is definitely an elegant device I would love to have at home! I'm sure its water-saving capacity is going to be jaw-dropping, possibly with a recycling feature to allow the water from the last rinse (which would be super clean water, cos the clothes would be super clean anyway) to be used as the first soak/rinse in the next cycle (wont matter even if the water contains some dirt/detergent as these clothes are dirty and meant to be cleaned anyway, more detergent wont matter). Can any engineer look into this aspect?

way cool! bet one will be brighter too after drinking this hee hee

This will probably TEACH us how to play the piano. Most likely comes with Grade1-8 tutor with evaluations on how lousy the learner is. It will record all your practise sessions and tell you when you did the best at what time of the day, which day of the month etc, does an evaulation, combine with personal mood evaluation software, will make any two left handed souls into concert grade pianist.

YEAH finally a Mac integrated Karaoke device! This should match up to the Magic Mikes from Philippines. Maybe it'll have a built in chip that will make any croaker a world class singer. All you need is the iSing ;-) Singapore idol, siam ah! here comes iSing! haha

hmm..... no comments. must try first! but i'm wondering how to put this on ....

this gadget will most probably weigh less then a MacBook, travel faster than a car and have innovative features on it that no one will ever imagine!

hee hee... iWave! No need to figure out the temperature/timing on how to defrost/warm up/cook your food. This device will analyse it for you and have it ready in mins. Maybe can even "tell" it how well you want your beef to be. Next time it senses you putting the beef inside, it'll automatically recall your previous beef settings. May even be able to detect common health condition like body temperature, blood insulin, blood pressure levels etc to determine if the food type that is placed inside is suitable for your health condition. If not, then it'll refused to work haha

iPuff, definitely a hot favourite with ALOT of smokers out there. Gadgety and maybe gives the same shiokness in smoking but have no smoke coming out of the smoker's mouth? Intelligent design required....

hmmm... iCandi, will take care of all sore throat, bad breathe, low sugar and whatever the situation, its an intelligent sweet hee

ooohhhh this one should be a reality soon... maybe?? who knows.....

666th post! Lucky Me!

Yeah, its the scary 666th post.... after procrastinating what to write... it has to be something Lucky to counteract the "forces of evil"....

Also using a beta version of Skitch to compile this photo, you can add circles, squares, arrows, write on photos and very easily attach the edited photo to an email/weblog or save it by dragging it into the desired folder.

Definitely a fun fun software to use, great for Mac users, its along the same line as the ComicLIfe.

thanks Otterman for signing me up for the beta version, u can look forward to me using more of it on our blog ;)

iPhone fever

the iPhone fever has generated quite a lot of stirr in the technology market, since its announcements a year ago, today is the day when lay man, general public will get their chance to touch it, feel it and most likely caress it.

With some luck or alot of bad luck, Ad maybe one of the few rare Singaporean souls who will have his hands on one of these iPhones. (for the luck part, he'll have to explain to you guys hee)

One of the major "headaches" of wanting to own a new iPhone is the service contracts that binds one to their service provider making them invalid to purchase another new phone without paying a hefty penalty. So these guys at Wired for their clever suggestions.

Hilarious!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ready for an IPhone? Tips to End Your Existing Cell Contract
Daniel Dumas 06.27.07 | 2:00 AM

You’ve got a serious case of iPhone fever. The one big problem? You’re locked into a two-year contract with another carrier.
How do you jump ship without getting reamed with an early termination fee? Time to conjure up your inner Houdini and perform some clever escape tricks.

Check out our eight easy, tried-and-true tips for ditching the shackles of that nasty contract … so you can jump headfirst into another one.

Pawn it off
Don’t want your contract anymore? Find someone who does. Websites like Celltradeusa.com specialize in connecting thousands of people together for the express purpose of transferring the financial responsibilities of cell contracts from one person to another. As long as the recipient meets the minimum qualifications (credit check, etc.) you can transfer the plan over without getting hit with the early termination fee.
Odds of success: 2-to-1

Get out while you still can
If you just signed up for service, you typically have 14 days to drop it -- 30 days with some carriers. A simple call to customer service cancels your plan. All you may have to do is pay a prorated amount for the service you’ve already used.
Odds of success: 3-to-1

Move to the boonies
It's pretty simple to register a change of address with most carriers. Change your address to an area your cell carrier doesn't have service, then call and complain about not getting reception. Contractually, if a service provider can’t offer access in a given area, the contract is null and void.
Odds of success: 5-to-2

Military service
If you’re already in the armed forces, deployment overseas usually means you’re free and clear to end your contract early -- without any financial obligation.
Odds of success: 6-to-1

Read the fine print
The wee print in your bill’s Terms of Service? Read it closely. Providers frequently make small changes to you plan -- an increase in the number of text messages here, a few more night and weekend minutes there. It doesn’t matter if these alterations benefit you -- they automatically void the contract and give you as much as 30 days to get out.
Odds of success: 8-to-3

Demand to see the paperwork
Did you sign a contract in the store? Ask the carrier to come up with a hard copy of this legally binding document. If the provider can’t come up with a physical copy, then you’re free to go. Paper gets lost, you might have forgotten to sign and sales reps are often too busy or lazy to file the paperwork.
Odds of success: 10-to-1

Abuse the system
Cell-phone service providers usually have roaming agreements with other carriers where they don’t offer reception. Roaming areas can often be close, sometimes the next county over. Chances are you have a friend with a house in one of these roaming areas. Check a service map to find out. Then take your phone over on Friday night and as soon your Unlimited Nights and Weekends start, call POPCORN, and leave the phone on. Roaming is usually free to the customer but costs the carrier dough. They’ll practically beg you to leave when you call to cancel the contract.
Odds of success: 20-to-1

Fake your own death
Have a friend or colleague work up a good set of tears and call in on your behalf claiming that you’ve shuffled from this mortal coil. Report something feasible yet horrible, e.g., "He … he was just ripped to shreds by that farm machinery." The contract will be terminated because you are. Note: This is wholly unethical and probably illegal.
Odds of success: 50-to-1

iPhoto to web direct express via Google Picasa

You will need a google account to do this. (email me if u want an invitation to have a gmail account, quite member's only kinda privileges)

Then click at more google services.

You will find a link to Photos, there u can find the download options to your pc or mac. Pretty cool, they have a stand alone software to browse your photo gallery for direct uploading of your photos on to the web which also offers an option to copy the file to be used on a blog. pretty fast link.

The other option which I'm blogging about is a direct link from within iPhoto itself. When you chose the export feature, you can see that there's an additional option to upload to google's photo gallery direct. Super cool!

It will prompt you for your gmail username and password.

and then it will ask if you would like it to add to an exisiting album or a new album and put in some description for the album as well as if you would like this album to be in the public or private gallery.

awesome

Colourful Shuffles

What a great way to hang out and listen to music in your clip n go manner.

Apple has launched their latest series of Shuffles in various different colors! Gives you a great excuse to own more than ONE shuffle, grey for boring lecture materials, orange for funky hip hop musice, green for evergreen oldies, blue for blues, pink for retro.... i think I would still need another few more colours for chinese, canto pop, musicals, country music.....

Will Apple come out with a wider colour range for the Shuffles? We wait to see...

Auto Audio

I din know that the audio selection on Peppermint is Automatic!

Audio settings was put to mute when there is no ear piece/speakers plugged in.

But when I attached a pair of ear phones into the jet, it recognised that there's live audio output and turns on the "sound" for me at the previous settings.

So cool!

iPhone finally

Finally after many months of hearing rumours, years of prediction, the much anticipated iPhone by Apple Inc is launched!

200701iPhone

although its being launched for a couple of days, its not available in the shops yet until June. So it gives americans lots of time to switch mobile phone companies because so far only Cingular will be carrying it

Its definitely another piece of jaw-dropping technology that will make you re-think how clumsy our modern phones are. Its a full screen touch screen phone that does not require a stylus. How cool is that? No need to worry about losing that little piece of metal stick that would ruin your day if you cannot find a replacement (which is a common phenomena these days with the high turnover of mobile phones)

So here's a list of why I think its a BOOM-BAM-Wii device:
1. full touch screen!
2. no need for stylus
3. taking a photo, viewing it and even sending it/using it/emailing it is ONE touch
4. conference call easy
5. you can CHOSE which voicemail to hear first!
6. sync with my Peppermint seamlessly, I dun have to worry anymore about compatability issues anymore!
7. its an iPod! listen to music and view the album at the same time!

there is so much excitement about this phone that Ad can hardly wait till June to lay his hands on one. Now its to see who is going to pick up the FIRST iPhone in Singapore.

And if you think that this iPhone is no big deal, think again, Panasonic CEO left CES (Consumer Electronics Association's annual mega-gadget expo) to attend Steve Job's launch of the iPhone, report here at TUAW

Enjoy this humourous clip on iPhone.

More about the neat gadget can be found at the Apple website here
