Great Sat!

Last weekend was full of freebies!! Hee, my favourite.

Signed up for Celebrate Women event by HP and CC. Without a clue, I headed for the event looking forward to the freebies but instead, I got more than just freebies!

Irene Ang was the host for the show and shared with us some of her secrets of being a women today.

Some of the tips which I found particularly useful was towards time management!

1. Look at your current lifestyle now and calculate the amount of time you spend in the following few categories (1 week):
a. Sleep
b. Work
c. Exercise
d. Travel (to & fro meetings/work etc, not go HK shopping hor!)
e. Family
f. Balance = Me time!

She looked at her life 3years ago and found that she spends 15hr/day working, leaving no time for family, exercise or herself! So she did a revamped and put a 10hr max break on her work daily for 6days a week. And found that she's got more than 20hrs for herself in a week! Cool eh?

2. Wanna exercise but dun want to spend alot of $?
- make use of your time infront of the tv to do crunches, stretching, sit ups, skip a rope etc.
- start with commercial breaks, just short sessions to tone your body
she started with that and did just 10crunches/day and now... she's at 150/day and she rests only during the commercial breaks! interesting eh?

3. Junk it!
-discard bad habits/habits that you do not like
eg. eating junk food that will make you flabby? hee...
eg. sleeping late and gives you eye bags?
eg. bad or no skin care regime that will cause you to look really beyond your age?

- discard "friends" that do more harm than good for you
eg. friends who keep calling you up with their problems, need your counseling/time/comfort. Yet, year after year, the same problems occur to them! So they dun really take your advise to change their lives. They may actually enjoy getting into the same mess that they keep getting themselves in. Since its not a life that you may want, Junk them!
eg. friends who enjoy taking advantage of you, borrow $ etc. Well, you dun need to waste time on pest management do you?
Irene does a spring-cleaning on her friends annually by actually deleting their contacts off! ha ha... interesting!

At the end of the event, we were given a goodie bag! Full of goodies! hee...

I dun really need some of the items inside, anyone interested in the HP Home Kit to build a calender? Just pay for shipping!

Then as I walked towards Bugis Junction to meet Ad, I walked in Fasio's road show and got another freebie! hee
Fasio Perfect Cleansing Oil

THEN, I remembered that I was offered a free demo at the SKII counter, since I got a bit of time before Ad appears, I did my free trial on their whitening series and was surprised that the effects of the whitening products lasts 3days! Here's a fresh picture taken today, 3days liao lor!

And SKII wont let you go home empty handed right? So they gave me some freebies too! Hee...

Kumar Stripped Bare!

Its been a long time since we last saw Kumar on the stage. He is our local celebrity, famous for his crude, raw remarks that tickles our minds like crazy.

Kumar used to host NUS's shows and he never fails to bring the house down with his humor.

Last weekend, he was going to have his solo talk show at the Esplanade with very affordable tickets (the cheapest ones lah...) So we cannot resist not seeing him again!

Thanks to S&J's prompting, we managed to seize the last few tickets of the show for his opening night.

Here's to them!

New Electronic Signage on MRT

Yeah, finally technology has caught on in our public trains!

Many years ago, when I was in HK, we already found their train system very efficient, to the point of being scary! Not only that the information on the train system is simple and easy to comprehend (even for tourists), easy to change between trains too! Just walk across the platform and the train that you need will arrive in good time. Very little waiting time required.

What impressed me most was their electronic signage on the trains. It shows you clearly the direction the train is heading towards with a series of coloured lights on the stations of the train. These lighted stations were useful for tourist who may miss the announcements of the station names as some of the words may be hard to catch for non-chinese folks.

Finally after so many years, Singapore has similar system too!! Although its not on all the trains, but I'm sure those who are on the trains will find the information useful!

A time to reflect

This is the season of Lent, a time when we journey through the challenges that Jesus faced during his time of trials, temptations, a test of his faith and willingness to follow God.

In synchrony, a part of my life is also been tested under the brutal flames.

It is much easier to just ignore the situation than to face them. But we can only ignore them for that long before we really HAVE to face them. Its so tough when we have to chose, when our choices becomes cemented for the rest of our lives. We will have to live with the consequences of our choices. It is so hard!

It is so hard to find clarity amidst the fog.

It is so hard to find directions amidst the many distractions.

It is so hard to find peace with a decision that can only please one party at a time.

When I stand at my position, I see things from my point of view and it is easy to point out the "wrongs", the "mistakes" or the "misdeeds" of others.

Yet, when I place myself in their position, all these wrongs/mistakes/misdeeds does seem to be all just, fair practices.

So who is really "right"?

Each of us have our own moral ruler, how can we synchronize them such that we can all see eye to eye?

We cannot turn back the clock and ask someone else to make that tough call to decide the fate of matters. So what do we do?

A Pleasant Surprise!

How I love a surprise, even more when it involves two of my favourite things!

Snail mail + Snoopy!! Ho Ho Ho!

Why do I love snail mail, hand-written cards/letters so much? Because for a person to think of you, to jot down his/her thoughts on paper/card, to put that paper/card into an envelope, to put a stamp on it, to write your address to it, bring it to be posted.

All these actions add up to tell you how much you mean to this person!

And I'm so thankful and grateful that I mean enough to some to be sent a Snoopy card! Yahoo!!

This is a great way to start the weekend! hee

Thank you guys!

Where to?

The dilemma is where to go for our next holiday?

Hmm.... Must be somewhere that offers both SHOPPING ( although i am not sure why I would need more stuff in my over-stuffed tiny home...) but without some shopping, the trip feels empty... or was it more of my luggage feeling empty? hmmm...

Its been a while since I've been to a cultural trip that is soo packed full of learning about the place. I really enjoyed my trip to Turkey, on retrospect, it was only because we had a really good tour guide who provided really touching, interesting stories that lasts in my mind till now (trip was almost a decade ago).

I believe the guide really makes a lot of difference to a cultural tour. I've gone on day trips with several guides before, some of the just recites passages off history books, some just try to point to the trees, flowers by the Palace and tell you that they are fragrant. Most do not add real value to the experience itself. Are they really doing justice to the site? Or they are killing their own trade? I'm getting more inclined to visit a site carrying just a lonely planet, that will probably give me more insightful information on the venue of interest.

So where's cool for our next destination?

I'm trying to keep Tokyo as an unexplored nearby city for as long as I can help it. I've seen how addicted those who have made their trips there keep wanting to go back. There is something about Tokyo that just screams excitement. At least I know there's many many places which I will find my favourite comic character hee hee... And I told myself that I'll need to really save up to visit Japan, its such an expensive place!

Seoul? Korean won is really dipping low now, but due to the language barrier, its really tough for us to navigate out of the city area on our own. Besides the really cute Lee Dong Gun, there isnt many koreans that I long to see.... hee

Europe? Been there, its a place that we'll have to take a long time to soak in the atmosphere, the landscape, the architecture and the places will be there for the next 50yrs, so no real hurry to go back. Besides, euros is abit ex now too! When I'm richer lah!

Same goes for London, UK, too ex!

So where else is a good getaway from our concrete jungle?

Down under? Been there twice already, nothing will change there for the next decade too! So no great hurry either hee...

Some place else more exotic? Like Maldives? hmmm.... or Bhutan? hmmm.....

Some day I would love to visit South Africa and its safari! Watch tonnes of giraffes run along the plains or the water buffalos swin & play in the pond (they wont go extinct so soon would they? I'll need time to save up for the trip!)

There's one place that really excites me is to visit some of the worlds' greatest churches & some relics of the saints & to walk through the path that Jesus did. But to fully immerse in this trip, I would like to do some bible study first before embarking on the journey.

The problem of being too cosmopolitan! ha ha ha

Beware of Newspapers on Malaysian Roads

Beware of newspapers lying on the road

If you are driving in Malaysia , do take note of the advice below.. Please pass this onto yr friends. Avoid driving over newspapers strewn on the road It would appear that this technique has reached Malaysia from Indonesia .

Life here is getting more like in Indonesia these days. This story which was circulated to me reminds me of the traps set in certain parts of Jakarta by robbers.. Some people have lost their lives over this. They drive into certain lonely roads in Jakarta to find pieces of wood with nails in them on the road. This causes their tyres to go flat. If they get out of their cars, they are set upon by robbers who will take everything: their cars, wallets, anything valuable and sometimes their lives.

Avoid driving over newspapers strewn on the Road a new trap set by Robbers. This incident happened some where in KL and forwarded to me by a friend..

This person was driving alone at night when he saw newspapers lying around in the middle of the road. Without giving it much thought, he drove pass the stack of papers. No one would expect to find heaps of rocks and stones beneath the papers!! Wanting to know the damage to his car, he stopped to check.

Need I say more? The moment he got out of his car, he was robbed by a group of guys and lost his properties/belongings. Just imagine what would have happen if this had happen to a girl/woman....

So folks, please be careful, do not stop when you're driving alone at night no matter what ! Avoid driving over the papers if you see newspapers lying on the road, this could be a new trick for the desperate fraternity out there...........!!

Fun Fairs!

I love setting up a stall at fun fairs! hee.... mad eh?

The two that I've participated in brought back hilarious memories.

In Sec 3, our school decided to do the fashionable thing by having a fun fair to raise funds. Every class have to set up a stall. So after much deliberation, our class decided to do a Pizza store. So a friend offered her giant mansion as the cooking base for about 8 of us to gather at her house the day before to prepare the food....

I must admit that I was rather sua ku in those days, I did not take a good look nor took a grand tour of the house of many floors and rooms. So after spending almost the entire night in the kitchen cutting, chopping, kneading, rolling etc one by one my classmates dropped off to bed like flies. Leaving me another last warrior to finish with the packing and cleaning.

We were both dead tired in a totally new house, none of us can remember which is the room to our friends' bedroom!!

We were also too shy to open the doors to each of the rooms to try to find her. So we decided to find a room located on the ground floor and just make do with whatever we have, since its only a couple of hours before we leave for school. We were so glad to find a bed in that room, no bedsheets, no pillows, no bed covers... we did not need them to fall asleep for sure. We were so tired!

Happily we navigated towards the bed in the dark and closed our eyes... sleep was heavenly.

Before long, irritating buzzing noise around our ears woke us up along with the intense itch of many mozzie bites on our bodies!!

Sickening!

We hunted around the room for something useful to defend against these pests. Only way out is to turn on the aircon and chill our bodies such that it would not attract the mozzies anymore. After some hunting, we finally located the remote control for the aircon, fiddled with it till it was turned on. Ah, peace again.

Then, it became too cold for me! I have to struggle with either mozzie bites or cold night... SIGH. It was such an unforgettable experience.

2nd fun fair was when I was in JC, our JC is famous for fun fairs... I was responsible for the games stall, so we crafted the game of Alley Cat. With a few of my team members, we created dustbins, pulley system to lift the bin caps and have a cat jump out of the dustbin. (I still cannot figure out how to get it to work... boys, they have their ways!)

We had more fun throwing the tennis balls towards those folks who are pulling the bin covers behind the canvas ourselves then our players did!! hahaha

That was one long day of sweat, hard work but full of laughter and teasing. Our team bonded really nicely together after that day and we even studied together for our A's. It was really great!

NOW comes the time to prepare for another fun fair!! Charity Fair in May (more details to follow).

Anyone with useful items like CDs, VCDs, DVDs, books, bags, clothes, shoes in GOOD condition to donate away?
Suggest to price your items from $2-10.
All proceeds will be donated to Assisi Hospice Charity Fun Day!

Last year's blogs on the same charity fair linked here and here.

Jackie's Treasures?

There's something I dun understand about the whole ordeal on Jackie Chan's historical ancient homes.

It took him more than 10years to try to persuade the HK government to give him a piece of land to put them together and built a museum. But nothing happened until he spoke to Singapore government which took 10days to nail down a piece of land for him.

Normal logic tells us that one should move on right?

But the daily reports on the ST are confusing and at times conflicting.

As a very patriotic Singaporean, I cannot help but feel that we have been made used of as a stepping stone for Jackie to get his message across to the HK government that he meant biz. Because the moment it was announced that SG government allocated a plot of land for the ancient houses, the HK government also gave him some preliminary agreement!

In the 2nd report on ST on the 27th Feb, (which I read with much frustration), it says that Jackie will chose to keep his ancient houses in HK but donate his movie costumes to us instead. Hello?? What do you really want to do? If you feel strongly about keeping the ancient houses within China, by all means go ahead! Do not waste our resources and time in suggesting that you may want them in SG! Do you know how many folks in the various ministries worked their butts off during that 10days just to draft out the land allocation, work out the time schedules, match land development plans, work out public transport systems? Just because you changed your mind when other venues (closer to your heart obviously), you just tell us that we'll still get a few pieces of cloth.

My mind blew away when I read today's article about how Shanghai is now going to house some of the ancient houses. I mean like since WHEN did Shanghai come into the picture?? (Was it failure on ST's part to give a full report of the situation? OR a deliberate attempt to conceal the whole picture?)

Is there a point to having a few different sites for these ancient houses? Wont you be diluting the wealth of history, the wholeness of experiencing the ancient houses all in one place? Or you are plotting a Walt Disney version of your Jackie Museum? Is there really so much to worship about Jackie? That will create a constant flow of tourist to these places? We are talking about 3 different museums here, the maintenance cost will be monumental! Wont each of them end up being like a Haw Par Villa? Surviving on a thin thread? Sure when it in its glorious days, everyone would have visited the Haw Par Villa. But honestly, in today's context, how many of you, as parents or family groups or friends, would organize an outing to Haw Par Villa?

Once Jackie passes on, the value of these artifacts would have a limited life span. So wont it be wasting more resources trying just to maintain them?

Jackie is famous for his ability to fight on screen and perform witty tricks, the amount of serious spurring on screen as decreased dramatically over the years with age. How much longer will he last? Would much people still be interested in him in another few more decades? Not me. I've stopped watching his movies.

Plus, it was a huge minus point with all the rumors about how he chooses pretty lead actresses (which varies with EVERY flim) for his movies. Do you ever wonder how much these females have to go beyond their acting profession just to get the role and to keep it? As a woman, how do you feel?

3am n feeling blur

I have to fix up some diagrams and to do that, I have to merge data from various sources and just as I managed to dig up all the different files to start on the mega merge....

The silly Word took an eternity to just do simple functions like copy n paste.

Then it autoformats all my contents within the table.

Doesnt help when I tried to attend to JUST the table on a fresh, new document.

Word is sickening!

Dun think its worth the effort to use Word anymore!
