Memorable Quote from Evan Almighty

Saw this film on HBO recently, besides the natural humor of the film that got me hooked onto it, there was something that stroked me really hard too! It was a dialogue between "god in the film" and Joan (wife of Evan) in the restaurant ...

"god": Let me ask you something. If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?

How true is this.

901st blog!

Its unbelievable how much random BS I've sprouted on our blog over the past few years, we are our 901st blog posts!

So how much do i really remember? hee...

Here's to thank all those who's been silently reading and following our blog all these while. I'll try to blog more often this year, I often have lots of thoughts about many things that occur around me. Some are good news while often its the bad news that weighs down on my mind abit more.

This year, I've resolved to live a happier life, to not allow bad news to affect me so much and always give thanks to God for the miracles that He constantly surrounds me with.

Just a couple of days ago, a couple of old friends turn up at our door to our pleasant surprise of course. And after some catching up, as usual, I'm not shy about my medical condition and shared openly with them. After my sharing, Mr. A asked if they could pray for me. I was so touched! Yes of course! He spoke words that was in my head in blurry form but through his mouth, they became live and real for me. It was such an affirmation of God's love for me, He reaches out in many different forms and ways. Thank you Lord! *muaks*

PAT time!

This year, we worked with lightning speed! I thought that 2kg of pineapple mix would be too much for our team but as it turns out, we finished so fast that we've got time for a 3rd kg! Yet, it din looked like we've got enough to go around for everyone... Looks like next season, we'll have to increase it to maybe 4 or even 5 kg?

Native = the BEST!

This is an interesting piece of read, just as I was puzzled by a very common yet heartbreaking situation, while walking through the scenario with others of very different, out my world views. This article reveals the true meaning of how our response should be as God's children. Your instinctive response is your conscience, the basic, native response is the best way!

We Know God’s Truth through Conscience
by Rick Warren

Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. Romans 2:14 (NLT)

*** *** *** ***

God leads us to discover his truth, not only through creation, but also through our conscience.

Some things are hardwired in us by God; we know they are always right or always wrong, no matter what anybody else says. Our conscience tells us this. The Bible says, “Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right” (Romans 2:14-15 NLT).

Say we take a random sample of one million people from around the planet and put them on a corner in New York City. We say: “Here’s a 92-year-old blind lady with a walker. She needs to cross the street. Tell me which of these three options is morally right. One, you can let her try to cross on her own. Two, you can help her cross the street. Three, you can push her into oncoming traffic.”

You don’t have to be a Christian or Jew or Muslim or even a spiritual person; inside you know the right thing to do.

“Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right” (Romans 2:14-15 NLT).

What is Good Service? NUM experience....

The local brand New Urban Male (NUM) took SG by storm a couple of years ago with their colorful flip-flops that every teenager longs for at incredibly expensive prices. They have since branched out to Tees, Shirts and other apparels. They are known for funky, tacky, cheeky taglines on their tees.

I have never stepped into one of these shops before Dec because of one of the range of Tee that I'm interested in....(shhh secret)

That is because the whole place looked very male-dominated... my feel of the shop was confirmed when I checked their website to look for store locations. It was about 235men! *gulp* None for the ladies? Hello....

Okies.... I picked up the phone to call them to check if the Tees that I wanted was available in their stores. I had to call 3 different shops in order to find the "correct" one... Sigh... poor explanation on their websites on what does the different categories mean, it doesnt help that the person over the phone doesnt give proper information on the relevant store and just kept saying that its not the correct store... FINE!

I went down to the outlet at Cineleisure, level 2, there was a flip-flop store & the Tee store next to each other... But they seems like they dunno much about each other's products... FINE!

One gentlemen came forward to welcome me into the store.. well, there wasnt anyone else in the store... and there was 3 of them chatting with each other. At least there's some form of service...

I made my enquires only to be met with interesting response... I asked for my range of tee because I was getting more than 1 piece... He had the look of shock on his face and started looking around the store and replied:" We have them all over the store, we'll have to look for you, which color and which design are you looking for?"

As he eyes start to wander around the shop for the colors and type.... my eyes had to follow him as well.

Question: Dun they know the products layout? Why is he so blur?

It took us a while to find all the colors & designs that I wanted... except for one of them... out of the color.... So I asked if the other outlets have them. They did a call and checked, yes, its available.

BUT they do not do stock transfers between stores on their own.... they can just give me any tee and I'll have to exchange it on my own.....*scratch head*even Giordano does it! But FINE!

Then the most amazing thing happened.... it took 4 "men" a full 5mins to fold and put 4 tees into a paper bag and tape the bag up.... 2 use eye power, 1 to hold the bag the last one to figure out how to stick the bag closed....

Its the slowest form of service I have ever received, I almost wanted to jump out of my skin at the slowness of their packing service. And they work here? Me the part-timer can do all that in a flash and will be ready for the next customer! *yawn*

So I went over to the next store for the exchange... since there was also NO one in the store... they knew what I wanted before I completed my sentence.... according to the previous store, they told this 2nd store to put aside the color & size of the print that I wanted... by that, the 2nd store means that it unfolds the tee and lay it on the top of the pile of tee, like a flag! I dun really see that as a reservation.

Since there was no other customers, I guess it was not a big deal... FINE!

I wanted to do the exchange... so the guy who ushered me in waved the new tee to two other guys at the counter, gave them instructions to take out a form for me to fill in and I promptly took out the exchange piece for him. And the two boys have to repeat the instructions between themselves like 3 times, before they understood what that form meant.

The two boys filled in the information of the two tees with MUCH difficulty.... not just poor product knowledge slows them down but BAD spelling too!! I am super shocked lor! Simple form... took these two boys another 5mins to fill in... *yawn* *yawn*

They are the most blur bunch of sales or store managing folks I've ever experienced. I wont consider myself very widely traveled... But I definitely have been to quite a few places in asia, north america, europe, pacific area and I have never never have to meet with such lousy & poor service at the speed that makes me yawn.

Come on NUM, wake up before more jobs are lost, more sales fly out of the window. Wake up your idea!

A Resolution Worth Keeping

A Resolution Worth Keeping
by Jon Walker

For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:2 (NIV)

*** *** *** ***

Today’s guest devotional is from Jon Walker.

How are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions? You remember that list you made with optimistic enthusiasm but unrealistic expectations.

One of my friends started making New Year’s resolutions like, “I won’t lose ten pounds this year,” and “I commit to watching the Super Bowl this year.”

I suspect Paul only had one resolution on his list: “This year I resolve to know nothing but Christ and him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2).

Paul’s message is radically simple: Salvation is in Christ alone. What does this mean?

It’s not Christ plus your good behavior.

It’s not Christ plus the number of Bible verses you memorize.

It’s not Christ plus your tithe or the church you attend.

It’s not Christ plus wisdom from the latest Christian seminar.

It’s simply Christ plus nothing. Christ and Christ alone.
