Window-fied Peppermint

Peppermint is adapting well to her new OS sitting on a partitioned harddisk (10Gb) which was already sufficient to run some of the heavy duty softwares which I had to install to do some of my research analysis.

Peppermint truly surprised me with her versatility of adopting a new OS without any hinges.

I kept the Windows program on via VMware Fusion program on my desktop for the past week with frequent usage, switching between the Mac & Windows platform seamlessly.

Impressive, this experience has debunked all the previous myths of hanging, bugs etc....

Peppermint Rocks!

Beware when using public PCs

A new device has been introduced to the marketplace that is a huge danger to anyone who uses a PC that is not theirs. It is known as a key tracker and it sits between the keyboard and the PC. As can be seen in the pictures it is very discreet but is probably one of the most dangerous items of equipment to personal information that is readily available. These devices record every key that is pressed on the keyboard. Due to it's position (it sits between the keyboard and the PC) the information is logged by the tracker before the PC knows about it and as such is very difficult for the PC to detect. They are available in both USB and PS2 formats so pretty much any PC can be logged. The user puts the tracker in line, leaves it there for a set amount of time and then retrieves it. They can then download the data onto their own PC.

If you intend to use a PC that is not yours (ie hotel business centre, internet café, airport etc) I would advise looking at the back of the PC to see if one of these trackers has been placed in line (scrambling under a desk is the better alternative to losing your email details). If you cannot get to see the back of the PC, I would suggest you don't use it for anything personal. If a tracker is there and you do not notice it, whoever placed it there (could be any user of that PC before you) will be able to recall all of your keystrokes - logins, passwords etc.
These trackers cost less than £30 and they are definitely out there already.

Do Your Best to Rest

by Jon Walker

“…There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest ….” (Hebrews 4:8b-11 NIV)

Most of us think of the Sabbath as a day of rest, originating from the day of rest God took after he created the universe, as recorded in Genesis. And that view is correct; that is the basis for us taking a Sabbath, a day of rest, within our own week.

Yet there is a larger sense of God’s Sabbath: an invitation to rest in God’s healing grace, trusting in his power and his purpose for your life. We rest in our Father’s arms, knowing he goes before and he goes behind, knowing that his plans for us are good and not evil (Jeremiah 29:11).

We enter this “let go and let God” rest through faith, where we cease to work and live independent of God (“… anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work …”). Instead, we’re to focus our efforts toward entering this Sabbath-trust in God, a restful certainty that God’s got a handle on it all, and that he’s got our best interests in mind.

If I recall correctly, Ian Thomas illustrates this point by telling the story of a man walking down a dusty rural road on a hot, humid day. The man is loaded down with a heavy backpack and carries a duffle bag in each hand. A pick-up truck comes along, and the driver offers the walking man a ride, telling him to hop in the back.

The driver heads down the road, but when he looks in the rear-view mirror he sees that his new passenger is standing in the bed of the truck – still holding both duffle bags, still wearing the over-packed backpack on his back.

The thing is: We stand in the truck of faith, still carrying our burdens, thinking they are independent of the ride we’re taking. Perhaps we think God can carry us, but not our burdens, that we have to keep bearing them ourselves.

What now?

· Rest in God – Rest in God’s power and grace, and work toward confidence (faith) that he is looking out for your best interests. “I believe; Lord, help my unbelief.”

· Rest requires dependence – If you’re working independently of God, then you’re not at rest in God. Possible signs that you’re working independently: worry, a need to control, a crammed-full schedule.

· Our Father’s heart encourages rest – Next time you feel overwhelmed by life, settle in a chair and “be still and know that he is God.” Give him your burdens – your backpack and your duffels.

· Faith leads to rest – Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” (John 6:28-29 NIV)

The All NEW K850i

The phone that I have been drooling for, for a pretty long time....

There hasnt been many mobile phones that excite me in the past few years, nah not even the much hyped about iPhone (cos its pretty cool but does NOT have any number pads on it, cant sms-on-the-go is a NO NO for me) I'm more of a camera phone person who enjoys snapping pictures off daily stuff that pops out at me.

Hence camera function on the phone is the number 1 importance! Although I must admit that the camera feature in the iPhone is really quite good, much better than some of the 3.2megapix camera phones out there even though it is supposed to be only 2megapix.

So when K850i was launched... I'm just waiting for the time when I can afford to buy it!

Since Singtel has it at the best rates, I am very persuaded to switch service providers hahaha....

M1 sucks! Their prices and service and customer promotions are getting from bad to worse. They used to have the best customer service around where they will reward loyal customers handsomely. Now they do not even bother with you even if you were stuck with them for over a decade! *bleah*

So let's keep our fingers crossed that the price for K850i will drop steadily.....

Thanksgiving Already?

Missing Peppermint

I ventured to school today without Peppermint thinking that I WILL have enough work to fill up my time....

But there were a few instances when I HAVE to use a PC and it felt weird, like I'm betraying Peppermint by not using her.

Like I'm without something close to me, felt so strange to be without Peppermint....

Like when you leave the house without your mobile phone or wallet...

Eeks, do I have Peppermint withdrawal syndrome??

Why I will NEVER have cats...

What's Your Problem?

Each day, with each person that I meet, they seems to have some central problems bothering them.

It is sad to continue to hear so much sadness that bothers my friends, those people whom I care about.

The one difference I see with people and their problems is.... their attitude!

If you have a belief, a religion that guides you in a certain path, an upbringing that gives you a guide to life, you KNOW that at the end of the day, all will be good. For those with this never-say-die, God-will-provide attitude, their lives may continue to get tougher yet they will continue to live in joy. Joy for all the good things that they have. Joy for all the friendships they treasure.

However, if you just burrow in your own sorrows, keep asking why are things like that, why cant they be better. They continue to live day after day in bitterness, in anger, in pain.

So What's Your Problem?

How are you going to face it?

Beautiful Day, rude people

Its the weekend!

And we have a mission, actually two.

One is to go for a warehouse sale and the other to complete some assignments.

To complete the assignments, we will need a reference book from the National Library.

So we head out to the library. Woah the seats were comfortable, quiet environment and even power supply for notebooks!

Wonderful

but being mid-day, there are many people here already. All the seats were taken up.

As I spotted 3 young kids packing up to leave, I stood by the side patiently to let them go.

When they were almost done, a couple came in between myself and the kids and happily charged forward.

So I went to gently remind him that I was waiting for the kids to clear out before occupying those seats.

He had a very unhappy look on his face and still ignored me and went ahead to put his things on the table.

Fine, the table was big enough to accomodate 4 of us.

But there was only ONE power supply available on the table.

I quickly took out my power plug and plunge it into the power source.

He looked ultra buay song and wanted to pick a fight with me. I told him that there was two of us with machines.

He almost wanted to eat me up and said that I cannot "chop" the power plug since my husband is not here.

I told him that my husband IS here. He went to look for a reference book.

He bo chap me, And used his power cord and plugged it into the wall plug.

He threw the cord over my seats even.

Good thing the lady next to him removed it. else, I'll would have just dumped it on the floor.

Ass!

If he had negotiated nicely, I would have been nice. He was just too rude for my taste.

Peppermint is Window-fied

Am delighted to see that Peppermint is doing well with a duo system running off her 160Gb hardisk.

Am forced to install windows on my beloved Peppermint by circumstances.

But very pleased that Peppermint is handling all the changes well as if its just another software that is running off her.

*applause* to the Mac!

Then HOW?????

Long long time ago when this blog was first established, blogger was an independent blogging tool, not bought over by google yet.

So we happily registered ourselves and did all the nice settings to the blog. (noticed that the side bars were customised?)

And then, Jen BS-itchy set up her own blogger account using her g-account and started blogging from there. Very easy, very smooth operation.

As time passed, blogger merged with google and all the blogger account holders were forced to have a gmail account as well.

So now... we lost that initial email account/settings etc... and so we'll never be able to remove all the dead links on the side bar nor add new links to them. (I'm so sorry contest junkie, you are the reason why we have this Then HoW situation cos I wanted to add your site to my blog... now *sigh*)

Then HOW????

Marriages vs Divorces

Do you know that 1 in 3 marriages break down in Singapore ending in a divorce?

Do you ever wonder to yourself if your marriage will also end up in a divorce when you first get married?

I doubt that.

For all those madly in love, crazily passionate about each other, cant wait to start their own family, walk down the aisle, sign on their ROM certification....

How many actually stopped for a moment to consider their odds of ending their marriages in a divorce?

If you can spend 1 year's time to prepare for your big day, checking out the hotel prices, wedding gown packages, wedding photography, talking about the different customs and traditions to "obey" etc.

How much MORE should you spend at working on a lifetime marriage?

I have always felt strongly about knowing what's to come in a marriage, before our ROM, we attended our MPC (Marriage Preparation Course).

It took place over 7 weekends, each weekend has a theme and we walked through all the toughest issues that most couples would face in their marriages.

I cannot garantee that every marriage with a MPC will be an ever-lasting one, but at the very least, we have invested time and effort in learning from those who are experienced what it takes to be IN a marriage.

This post is inspired by another divorce that I know of, by a third couple who did not attend any MPC for their marriage.

Some couples were afraid that attending MPC might cause them to break up BEFORE their big day... think about it, wouldn't that be better and getting married for a few years and then getting a divorce?

Things that makes me go hmm....

yep, there are alot of things that happen daily that makes me go hmm.... something Ohhh....

What about you? What are the things that makes you go hmm....?????

okok i got one....

service man A was told of a sound emitting from one the machines under his charge from his client. Being an obvious "sound", service man A went to the client's place to REPAIR the problem.

the problem was caused by a disconnected sensor on the machine

the solution: superglue the sensor back

1 week later, the client noticed that the sensor was disconnnected again. so client cleverly stuck the sensor back with what's left of the superglue "effect".

This continued to occur until the client was fedup but used a masking tape to tape the sensor to its place.

Guess what? the client was charged a few hundred bucks for serviceman A to put the superglue on the sensor.

doesnt't that makes you go hmm....

Painful Performance!!

Tonight's the President Star Charity Show... I think...

And guess what???

They got two newbies, Singapore Idol finalists to sing one of the best mandarin musical called Snow, Wolf, Lake written and sang originally by Jackie Cheung.

It was a totally BAD performance, out of tune, out of timing, out of the whole mood and feel of the song. Its ultra painful to watch.

In addition a total insult of one of the best musicans in this era!

pls do not ever air this in HK.... I still want to walk around that city without fearing for my life....

GRC level Green Initiative!

I am so happy to catch this piece of news! Finally, someone who has "power" and resources is actually doing something practical and useful to ease the global warming issue in Singapore at the GRC level.

Am very happy to share that the Tanjung Pagar GRC has just started a "Make Your Own Bag" scheme which recycles used banners into shopping bags!

Makes perfect sense, doesn't it??

The material used for these banners are water-proof, hardy and best of all colorful!

Each bag is ONE of a kind!

Hand sewn by someone who can earn some spare cash or for that retired lady to spend some of her leisure time contributing to the environment.

Excellent idea!

Get the story from CNA here!
