Eden Cafe

with a name like that, food must be heavenly right?

RIGHT!!
the chef is some ya ya chef from some ya ya hotel and his dishes are unique using a floral theme.

was in numerous media interviews and recommendations.

We tried 3 out of their many many desserts and found them YUMMY! Rating 4.5 Stars!

Chocolate mousse cake, heated up with a soft chocolate interior that will melt away as u break its soft creamy cake apart. It has rum inside I think but can bearly taste it. Chocolate is sweet but not overpowering sweet, hence a great cake for those who are concern with sugar loading.

Next was a peanut-black sesame cake which has a soft cake interior to balance out the rich creamy peanut butter-black sesame exterior. Not something which I would eat daily but would be great for those peanut butter lovers. Dun look down on its petite size, it can certainly fill you up!

last but not the least, sorry for the cut up photo, forgot to take the "before" picture hee

cos its the MOST delicious pastry/cake I've ever tried (after Jane's caka station and the strawberry mousse cake which is my childhood fav....).

This cake is some hibiscus something something cake, it has a light fluffy pastry wrapping the hibiscus interior that is soft like ice cream, overlaid with strawberry sauce, absolutely yummy!

Go Try It! The shop is along Club Street. Cant miss it!

Peppermint Celebrates NDP!

Yeah, aint it great to be seeing happy colors flooding the nation?

Peppermint also joined in the Dress in Red celebrations for our country!

its a slip in cover which give Peppermint enough space to plug in all the additional wires/power/discs and allow air ventilation through her ass. The trackpad is nicely covered by the skin to expose the exact space, gotta click through the leather padding though, a little not used to it, but I'm sure I'll be fine soon.

This cover was designed specifically for the MacBooks, hence it fits snuggly with any MacBooks. I was skeptical about having problems putting Peppermint to sleep properly as the magnetic catch may not work through the leather, however, as the sales girl has "advertised" this cover, I had no problems with it!

Cool!

666th post! Lucky Me!

Yeah, its the scary 666th post.... after procrastinating what to write... it has to be something Lucky to counteract the "forces of evil"....

Also using a beta version of Skitch to compile this photo, you can add circles, squares, arrows, write on photos and very easily attach the edited photo to an email/weblog or save it by dragging it into the desired folder.

Definitely a fun fun software to use, great for Mac users, its along the same line as the ComicLIfe.

thanks Otterman for signing me up for the beta version, u can look forward to me using more of it on our blog ;)

CRUSH!

some time ago, I saw this on the floor...

GST made my tabao cost increase by 10%!

Its NOT true that its only a 2% increase in GST. If you think about it, its 2/5 which is 40% increase! Scary hor??

All's well until I found out that buying food at our coffeeshop gets ALOT MORE EXPENSIVE since the GST hike!

We used to enjoy a 2meat+1veggie dish with rice for $2.50, cheap and good which is perfect for hardlanders. Fills our tummy and doesnt harm our purse so much.

Just as our garmen increased their "2%" hike on GST, our tabao lunch boxes also went up alot MORE expensive. What used to feed me well at $2.50, now can barely pay for 2 dishes only! :(

Angri!

guess the cost of this meal? $2.20!!

a very painful and disruptive sms

I never knew that I would be lying down on a spot in a public area groaning in pain ......

Well, I did that today.

I missed 2 tiny steps down the stairs because I was totally distracted by an sms which cost me a leg...

sms content somehow indicated that there was two different runs for women, instead of just one. So I was happily replying my "surprise" of the two race instead of one and WHAMP!

I was lying on the floor, shocked and in alot ALOT of pain.

I cannot believe that I sprained my right ankle, AGAIN! after like 17years.....

But I truly dun remember that it was this much pain the last time many years ago.... Maybe age reduces our tolerance for pain? Or just alot of faded memories haha

In that painful moment, a few million thoughts came flying past my mind, here's what they are:

1. Shit, why did i miss that step?
2. Darn, its damn painful!
3. Now ALOT of my plans for the weeks is going to CHANGE!
4. What should I do now?
5. Call Darling! (even thought he's like half a country away... yes call him)
6. flashback of my teenage sprain ankle moment...
7. flashback of how my MUM responded to my teenage sprain ankle moment....
8. No cold drinks/food for a few weeks....
9. Its going to be PAINFUL to be treated by sinsehs.....
10. PICK up the phone and CALL darling....
11. Thank God I still have my phone with me
12. Dial darling's number and was greeted by a very cheerful Darling....
13. weak answer to darling's cheerfulness and meekly explained my mini-misadventure...
14. darling's reply, stay where u r, i'm coming over right now.
15. shall i try to get up from the floor? It might be quite dirty....
16. check pain index... still OUCH
17. a lady in pink walks by... will she try to help?
18. nope, she went right by.... SINGAPOREANS! so CAriNG hor??
19. girl returns, asked if I was okay...
20. replied sprained ankle, in alot of pain...
21. girls walks away. ????!!@@#$%#@!#%^&
22. get up and hobble back to lab first...

yep, hobbling back to the lab was not as bad as I thought. It felt weak but not dislocated...

Back in the lab, boss came in and started discussing work with me. Had to cut him short to announce my handicap and need to get out to see the sinseh before my other medical appointments.

Darling arrived and we headed off to see a sinseh.... remembered that a friend had seen one before and mentioned that they were quite good. called friend to get contact. friend called back to say that they have moved... and in the taxi, the driver mentioned that the move was to Tiong Bahru. OH? so famous ah? Later we verified that it was two different sinsehs.

hmm... which one to go to?? Call friend's contact first to check check.... they say that they do massage of the affected area, preferrably after 1 day when the leg is no longer swollen. Oh well... that leaves us to the hands of the recommendation by the taxi driver... so go lah.

turns out that the sinseh is not in office yet, he's out having lunch, I almost forgot about the numbering system... we took a number tag and headed out for lunch... hehe... guess what? Beo Crescent Curry rice is just round the corner... dun care, hobble over to eat first....

came back and waited a while more for the sinseh to return... he looked very very YOUNG leh!
You know hor, usually the older the sinseh, the more experience he is... the less painful, the more effective.... this one looked like he's just started out only leh.... *fingers crossed*

when it was my turn, he told me to sit down and rolled up my jeans all the way to the knees. He applied medicated oil from kneecap onwards down towards the ankle. he pressed some acupuncture points along the legs and ankle and got it bandage up and gave me a long list of instructions....

here's my bak chang ankle.....

the leg just look fat because of the angle that the photo was taken.... dun be mistaken... haha

Sing Now: ‘We Are Fam-i-ly’

by Jon Walker

“Love your brothers and sisters in God's family.” (1 Peter 2:17b NCV)

We long to belong.

The Bible tells us that all believers “belong in God’s household with every other Christian.” (Ephesians 2:19 TLB) This means church is not something we go to, rather it’s something we belong to – a family of God’s people. It’s more than an organization, more than an institution, even more than a group of like-minded people.

We are a family forged by the fires of God’s love, and we are to “be devoted to each other like a loving family.” (Romans 12:10a GW) We are to love one another like brothers and sisters. This sense of family togetherness allows us to create authentic Christian community, where we are accepted, supported, and challenged to fully live out the purposes of our lives. We belong, and we help others belong.

Family is synonymous with a deep, unwavering commitment to support one another, no matter how rough it may get. You do things for family you wouldn’t do for any one else, and you make allowances for family members you might not make for anyone else.

For many of us, this image of family fails because we’ve never really been in a loving, wholesome family. We’ve only seen broken models, shattered relationships, and hurting hearts. The Good News is that God wants to provide you with the very things you’ve longed for in a family, and he can do that in Christian community.

As we learn to love one another, we can create the sense of family necessary to trust one another, accept one another, and serve one another. We learn the power of unconditional love. Our small groups – family circles – are meant to be Holy Spirit-led laboratories for learning to love one another deeply and earnestly (1 Th. 4:9; 1 Peter 1:22).

So what?

Belonging helps you develop healthy relationships – We may have learned unhealthy methods of relating in our physical families, but in a community of believers we can see models of good relationships. We’ll learn that it takes honesty, vulnerability, effort, and a lot of forgiveness to make relationships work.

Belonging develops godly character – Character tends to be more caught than taught, and in Christian community we’re able to see, up close and personal, the character traits of others. We’ll see maturity modeled, and we’ll see immaturity displayed, and we may get to model or display some of that ourselves as we all learn and grow together.

Belonging teaches biblical values – We’ve all picked up values intentionally and unintentionally. Some of these values may be right; some of them may be wrong. By bringing them into the family setting of a Christian small group, we’re able to measure our values against the standards of the Bible and in the context of mature Christian beliefs.

Belonging gives you a fresh start – You may be fortunate enough to have already seen healthy family relationships modeled in your home, or in your congregation. But there are many of us who emerged from shaky home environments. This is your chance to belong to a loving family and to start fresh in developing healthy relationships, godly character, and biblical values.

HP is so so only leh

I want to WARN all who has yet to catch HP's latest movie NOT to waste $$ at the cinemas. Just wait patiently for the DVDs, buy one copy and share among 20 friends.

Its really not that exciting nor engaging. Probably better to read the book. All the magical feeling and flare of HP is kinda lost even though its a 143min show. Should consider to have extended version like the LOTR series, which makes it super worth it to re-watch the extended version DVD.

After watching such a poor HP movie, makes me wanna watch something much better to "neutralise" the effects.

but when the next movie is released, I gues I'll be one of those suckers who will watch it at the big screen again....*sigh*

The Story of the Printer - a long story

Be prepared to be reading for a while on the story of the Printer....

It all started with lab work. We do alot of gel work in the lab, after looking through like 1500 samples, it becomes important to have hard copy photos pasted into our logbook to make reference to the correct gel image, to the correct sample. Else, ALOT of errors CAN occur!!

Each sample has 2 sets of photos, one to demonstrate if it carries a correct size insert, the 2nd to demonstrate its concentration. Both set of information is essential for downstream experiments. In other words, we have no choice but to PRINT these photos.

3yrs ago, our lab was not blessed with a gel photo-taking device NOR a printing device. So our daily activity include carrying our toxic gel up and down a flight of stairs to a central facility (which conducts classes occasionally) to take our pictures and print them out at the same time. With the restrictions in their lunch, closing hours etc, we have to time our experiments to fit in nicely with their hours, Sometimes we have to end up begging them to allow us to use the facility at 530pm even though official end of work day is at 545pm. Dun ask me WHY these people are so special!!

We had to just deal with the circumstance and make the best use of it.

We survived 1.5yrs like this, sometimes we walk up and down about 5-8 times daily until our butts and legs develop strong muscles.

Then we shifted up to 2nd level. This "new" lab premises has alot MORE facilities than what we used to have. They have a functioning gel photography system! FABULOUS!

We can now take as many gel photos in the same lab at any time we desire. Its a great feeling to have to his luxury as many times, the gel images determine the subsequent experiments, having this luxury of almost real time imagery means we can work faster and better. Wonderful.

The only thing is... we still do not have a printer to print out these images. So we are still pretty much dependent on the other labs.

Well, we can save all our images into a thumb drive and print them in ANOTHER open facility that IS meant for all.

Its still good. Because we can now plan our printing of the gel photos around the opening hours of the facility and not to clash with the classes that might be held inside. All's good.

Until, they decide to CHANGE the system!! AiYoh. The existing system has some quirks that needs to be sorted out and then it'll be fine. But someone up there decide that its time to CHANGE the system and the new system will take a while to be activated.... which means the old system CANNOT be used any further as it has be shifted to a new location (called the store room) :(

So we patiently waited and waited for the new system to be "initiated". Then the service engineer happily announced that the new system does NOT take in any other image source other than its own. Which means, one must use the camera on the machine to take the picture and then Only the printer will recognise it and print it out willingly. No other software will work on this machine.

GREAT!

So we went back to our primary source of photo printing..... armed with my thumb drive, I went down to the lab and asked for permission, got it and started the computer (which took a long time) and plugged in my thumb drive... and it did not recognised it!

Luckily the system can access the internet and I went to my gmail and started downloading my images ONE at a time. (imagine having about 50 each time....) a very painful procedure. but a neccessary procedure

Great one lot done. Happy. Return to lab to stick all the photos into my logbook.

The following week, I did the same thing, did all my experiments necc. and went to print the photos at the end of the week....

When I made a call to enquire if the machine was available....

someone asked me if I had permission to use it.

I went "huh? We had permission since 3yrs ago leh"

the person went, "Oh that was very long time ago hor? You better ask again lah."

GREAT! my boss is away on leave. cannot ask this two weeks.... my photos kana tio for 2weeks. just gREAT!

2 weeks later, when my boss returned, he went ahead to ask for permission AGAIN, only to find out that their highest order of personnel is away on leave for 2 weeks.

Very fun lor. very small innocent activilty kana drag for 4weeks for nothing.... sianz

FINALLY when ALL the permissions were granted.... I went down again to print my like 200photos....

the machine broke down!!!

WAH LIAO EH!! Win already lor!!

I moody sia

I went to pester another technician for his "help". previously when they changed to the new gel system, the old printer was in perfect working condition. I have asked him for MONTHs to loan us the printer... but he's gotta get clearance from higher order persons which NEVER came back. Finally, when I went this day to ask him... I bet he was in a good mood, he happily led me to the old printer and put it on a trolley to be loaned out. hahahaha.....

but hor, this ancient monster uses the jumbo printer port which I was not sure if our computer in the lab has the same port. Thankfully our lab computer is in the same generation as the printer haha....

Cool... port works.

Found the driver for the printer and downloaded it online.

But no matter what settings I did, the printer simply refused to print! It has an error message.... *bleah*
*i wanna tear my hair out look*

The technician came to our rescue! Yeah, he fiddled around with it and got it to work finally!

YEAH YEAH YEAH!

now this printer is sitting happily in our lab. after all this trouble... it finally got to a state where I would have prefered from the begining....

say hi to Mitsy people!

hahaha

Yummy food along Thomson Rd

Thomson Road's food scene seems to be building up rapidly over the past few years. Every few months, new stores pop up and serve a new taste. This time we tested the HK style resturant which serves some of my favourite food! They even had a huge plasma tv tuned to channel 48 on SCV to show HK cantonese programs! hee....

check out the yummies....

noodle soup, soup base was very fragent and delicious, can tastes the hours of effort put into boil the soup.

the looks of the porridge is very cantonese also! thick and tasty! After almost finishing the bowl of porridge, Mummy E discovered the egg underneath it! hahaha

This is mee sua, a steal for taste and quantity. Comes with pork chop on the side as well. BabyA could not stop asking for more! Even attempted to abandon his porridge for this mee sua. Soup base was delicious as well!

yummy!

Let's Celebrate NDP

its been a good 10years since I went for my first NDP at the National Stadium. Then, we had "lobangs" to get the tickets to watch the preview parades with 95% of the items as for the actual day (only difference was the fireworks, super weak or non-existence). But its always a very feel good atmosphere to celebrate a birthday. What more the birthday of my birth place?

Got the rush to wear red & white lots in the coming weeks. hee....

Also hor, anyone out there with lobangs to get tickets? 2 for me PLEASE! I've tried doing that online balloting since 4yrs ago, I never, NEVER got any reply or sms or email from the organisers saying: "Thank you for your interest in the NDP parade tickets ballot, we will get back to you shortly." or better still, "Congratulations, you have won yourself two tickets to the NDP."

*SIGH* I wanna go and watch the parade wearing my RED and White!

My Master on the other side

A sick man turned to his doctor, as he was preparing to leave the examination room and said,

"Doctor, I am afraid to die.

Tell me what lies on the other side."

Very quietly, the doctor said, "I don't know."

"You don't know?

You, a Christian man, do not know what is on the other side?"

The doctor was holding the handle of the door; on the other side came a sound of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.

Turning to the patient, the doctor said,

"Did you notice my dog?

He's never been in this room before.

He didn't know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear.

I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing...

I know my Master is there and that is enough."

May there be peace within you today.

May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.
