Many Faces of People

there are many faces of people, some are pretty, with a rotten core; some are ugly with a beautiful heart.

What face do you wear?

Or what face would you RATHER wear??

hee

today, i met someone with a pretty face but an ugly core, eeks me to bits, wonder how does such a person sleep at night, shit in peace and put on that radient smile each day... yikes!

But then again, who am I to judge?? Its really up to Him up there to Judge when the day comes. ;-)

Panda Porn!

haha, yes, caught the news for this a few days ago, Panda population is dropping rapidly, so they have to resort to showing the male Panda some Panda Porn to get his male hormones running high....

it was really funny to see soft porn on CNA hahaha

i doubt the porn has much effects on the male Panda as he was viewing the tape through the cage, might get distorted images and he doesnt quite seems interested in the video. He might be distracted by the crowd in the room, whom I havent figured out if they were interested in the Panda Porn film or the male panda's reaction to the pornography....

HAHAHAHA

The Perfect Half Boil Eggs

YES!! No more worries!! NO more over-cooked or under-cooked half boil eggs in the morning!!

Very *embrassingly* we've been having half boiled eggs at the coffeeshop downstairs our house which usually cost $4.20 for 4 half boiled eggs together with a cup of kopi and milo. Which is enough for us to buy a whole tray of eggs and a pack of refillable milo/kopi hee so we figured we might as well do it ourselves.

But hor, we always tend to OVER cook the eggs or Under cook it, seldom ever perfect.

Then the OTHER problem is: we tend to forgot the other 6 eggs in the tray/fridge hahaha

we came along this gadget which is pretty retro cos I remember seeing my aunties and uncles use it in their homes when I was a kid, we thought it'll be fun to try it out at home hee

So after putting in 4 eggs, I filled it up to the line (with 4 eggs icon) with hot water which I just boiled....

as I was watching the water drip away into the container underneath it, I noticed some white stuff coming out of my eggs (2 of them to be exact)!
I broke the eggs!!! ARGH!!

I totally did not expect the eggs to crack when I dropped them into the container, I guess I must have been too anxious to cook them haha

so after all the water got drained away, (leaving behind 1inch which Ad claimed it will NEVER get drained away completely), we removed the eggs and tried it, yum yum, it was abit on the over cooked side but still delicious! hehe

In our 2nd attempt, we had PERFECTLY half-Boiled Eggs!! hahaha

3 reasons contribute to this success...
1. the eggs were NOT broken hee
2. the eggs were chilled (not room temperature like we just bought)
3. we removed the eggs when the water level could not drop any further ie. cannot leave the eggs with the remaining 1inch of water

So cool!

next time u come to our house and wanna eat half boiled eggs, just ASK and you will b given!!

we'll just charge coffeeshop rates hahaha

New Nokia N95 major drool.... *slurp*

woah, I abandon Nokia mobile phones a few years back when their designs were ever NON-changing and the ease of use did not get any easier nor their camera quality improved much when other mobile phone competitors like Sony Ericsson, Samsung even Motorola improved by leaps and bounds.

Their latest mobile N95 has won me over (despite its chunky monkey size) with its 3.5G capability and 5Meg Pixel Carl Zeiss Lenses!!! built in GPS, 2G storage for music/photos/videos with expandable slot. Stero music output to even speakers!

dun ask me how long the battery is going to last, but its definitely a major drool.....

siong week

last week was a pretty siong week, many late nights coupled with meeting challenging situations... the end results.... SUPER TIRED!

But I really had fun going out with my girlfriends catching up on what's going on in each other's lives. Am so blessed to have these steadfast friends, we go through different cycles of drifting apart and coming back together. It feels so natural, such a normal part of "life" to lose touch with each other. But truely, if you care enough, you would drop a note to ask a friend how he/she is doing and you will never know... perhaps that friend was feeling down that day and your note/sms will perk them up. :)

Our Reaction DOES matters....

A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving couple and the boy was the gem of their eyes. When the boy was around two years old, one morning the husband saw a medicine bottle open. He was late for office so he asked his wife to cap the bottle and keep it in the cupboard. His wife, preoccupied in the kitchen totally forgot the matter.

The boy saw the bottle and playfully went to the bottle fascinated by its color and drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous medicine meant for adults in small dosages. When the child
collapsed the mother hurried him to the hospital. He died. The mother was stunned. She was terrified how she was going to face her husband.

When the distraught father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, he looked at his wife and uttered just five words.

QUESTIONS :
1. What were the five words ?

2. What is the implication of this story?

Scroll down to read....

ANSWER :
The husband just said "I am with you Darling". The husband's totally unexpected reaction is a proactive behavior. The child is dead. He can never be brought back to life. There is no point in finding
fault with the mother.

Besides, if only he had taken time to keep the bottle away, this would not have happened.
No one is to be blamed. She had also lost her only child. What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy from the husband.

That is what he gave her. If everyone can look at life with this kind of perspective, there would be much fewer problems in the world. "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness, and fears. And you will find things are actually not as difficult as you think.

MORAL OF THE STORY
This story is really worth reading. Sometimes we spend time in asking who is responsible or whom to blame, whether in a relationship, in a job or with the people we know. By this way we miss out some warmth in human relationship.

Virgin Focus Group: Loreal Hair

extracted from an email corrospondance as I was too tired to re-write the exciting night that I had. ;-)

-------------------------------------------------------------------

focus group was fun! there were 8 of us, moderated by a lady named Kath, she was fast to warm up the group and we got FREE dinner! of either fried rice or nasi lemak, supplemented by satay and prawn fritters, got ice water, soya bean, ice lemon tea and grass jelly as drinks.

So after 30mins of warm up dinner the session proper started, we did a round table brief introduction for everyone in the group and we were told to interact as much as openly as we can. No cameras to mug us but got a scriber who will take down all the things we say/ comment

Kath started by asking us some basic question on what we think are healthy hair etc etc then we played a sort out the hair products game where she gave us like over 30 different brand and type of hair products and ask us to sort them out. And also discussed further about the sorting.

The finale came when she took out two sets of marketing mock up of their new product which is angled to be better than a conditioner but less effective as a mask. Usage is like a conditioner, so its easier to use it unlike the mask where you gotta leave it on your hair for a period of time before rinsing it off. So we were asked of our opinions on the mock ups etc etc.

Finished by giving us a sample of the new product, which we were to try out in the next one week, they will give us a call one week later to ask our feedback on the new product.

The Goody Bag has their new range of shampoo, condition, serum and mask PINK color wan, havent taken a closer look at it.

The other goodies are really good!!! Facial products!! hee hee

One box of micro-something scrub that will clean the face well, with a SPF15 moisturiser (suppose to cost $34.90 retail)

One box of home-use chemical peel, which I am very excited about heh... But this one gotta use it twice a week for one month and then rest the face, if not over peel haha. I'm going to try to see if it will help reduce the freckles on my face using this one.

In short, I had a free dinner, free gifts which I'm excited about, enjoyed myself, met some interesting people, one lady who is a property agent has offered me a job with her haha

Messy people *bleah*

Sometimes you wonder if there are genuinelly people who are messy or they simply do not care.

We create all kind of trash in the lab, hence its only responsible to clear up after our OWN mess/trash so that it does not become a health harzard or physical unsightly mess for the others working in this small space...

let me show you our narrow "corridor": from the main door

one walk way to my work bench and study desk...

you do notice that the chairs take up half the walkway space leaving hardly any space to manoveour in and out of the "corridor". Some times some people get creative and set up the chairs in an alternately fashion, making it an obstacle course just to get to the bench! Other times, there are baskets and baskets of glasswares on these chairs (that swivel), I almost knocked on whole basket full of concial flasks over once as the basket was sticking out of the chair and I had to get across to the other end of the lab. The number of obstacles here can be used as a Outward Bound School already, do not need to specially pay money for it! haha

also, the lab is so crowded with so many bags, equipment and boxes that we can hardly look across the lab, so we dun really "see" anyone else but the boxes etc haha

check out what "healthy" moulds we are trying to grow, I wont be surprised if we discovered a new species of this in our very own lab!

Oh, we also have a new specialisation, crystals growing! Sounds very fun hor? Not when you have to clean it!!
There are some solutions which have alot of salt in them, when the solution vapourizes, leaving behind these salt, they crystallize (like some of those chemistry practical sessions we had when we were in secondary school).

So some kind soul used up all the different sizes of the tanks, filled them up with all the solution after they use, they dun have the COURTESY nor the cow SENSE to empty these tanks, and viola, we have many many tanks growing crystals!

good hor these people... am still trying to figure out if they are just messy or simply bo chap assholes! haha

I touched LV!!

have you ever felt how smooth the real Louis Vitton staff feels on your hands?? Especially when you rub it between your thumb and index fingers....

imagine LV MJ set!!! WOAH!!!!!

even the MJ case is LV wan leh!!

before you start playing with them, I already feel like a winner!! hahaha

2 Ears 1 Mouth

Had a conversation yesterday that highlighted that we were born with 2 ears and one mouth.

Best part is, you can CLOSE your mouth but not your ears......

What does it mean?

hahaha..... listen more and speak less lor!

there's this chinese saying that describes how "trouble" starts from the mouth...
禍從口出

Then there's another saying that says how we often turn a deaf ear to good advice...
忠言逆耳 利与行

how true how true.

Imagine you are in some sort of trouble, you have some BIG questions that you cannot answer like:
What am I doing here?
Why do I always get "bullied"?
Why should I always be doing this or that....

If you have the choice of finding someone to talk to/vent out your frustrations, you would want THAT someone to agree with your perspective! You wont want to spend 1hr talking to someone telling you how wrong you are, the mistakes that you've made and perhaps the real rationale of why the others "treat" you that way.

If anyone has a choice, one would go for the pleasing sounding "friend" who would sayang you, nurse your wounds instead of cutting it deeper.

But is that true friendship?

Sometimes, when we listen, we are really only listening to one side of the coin, we cannot really "judge" who is right or wrong, because we maybe mis-interpreting the situation.

I often run into such situations at times, saying things that maybe I should not. sometimes wondering if I am actually helping the situation or not.

So i have to consistently remind myself, I really dunno any better... and if I am a true friend, I should tell my friends how I really feel and THEN sayang my friend haha....

Be Civic Minded People!

I wonder how much education and how many generations of good sound education will it take for us to be able to live in a place where citizens take pride in their living environment, take pride enough to take good care of the corridor, void decks, open spaces, play grounds, car parks as if it was their own home.

I was severely disappointed today when I saw a dustbin's exterior went through a total meltdown... you could hardly recognise the original color of the bin let alone the form of it....

so sad lor, I hope its not an act of vandalism, nor an act of carelessness but pure pure accident to reduce this bin to this state.

I do hope that we take good care of the property that serve the very important function of taking in our trash and keep it in its original state...

come on people, you can be more civic-minded than this!

Jen's Bday Bash in BKK

YEP, this year, Ad gave me a huge treat to be away for once during my bday, I havent been there in like 15years, so my memory of this place is like temples, flooding market and trees lined up along the road that was not green but GREY haha.

All these changed during our short stay in this city now filled with activities for a tourist...

Canticle CNY

Yes its abit delayed action but better late then never right? hee....

Canticle is the name of the choir that we are in from church, so we "arm-twisted" D&S to host the CNY party since their place is HUGE hee hee and we had a ball of time there!!

We chatted, ate, played cards, drew, stacked up lego tiles, and even tried to solve the mystery of the zip....

there's this children's activity book which has a list of items that you can search for in the main picture, teaching kids about clothes, television, microwave etc and no one has ever found the ZIP! haha yes we are still trying....

then the tradition of celebration comes with BlackJack and Alcohol, which both dun always go well hand in hand.... at least for Martin hee hee.... soon the effects of alcohol was knocking him out, from sitting up to see his cards, he's laying down and almost doing a full face on the floor half way through the game haha

Then at one corner of the house (see that's why i tell u their house is huge because one corner can host over 10 of us playing cards the other corner can have kids doing other stuff), there's LEGO! Ad's favourite!!
Check out what he built at the request of a pretty young lady (*tsk* *tsk* do I have to "fight" with her for Ad now??)

I show who she is, then u folks out there will tell me if I have a cause for concern...

so pretty young thing hor?? *sigh*

here's the finishing touches to put in a Priest into the church that she requested for...

One whole day of fun fun and more fun, sorry no more photos after that cos I'm having too much fun to be taking pictures anymore haha...

Breast Milk not as "safe" anymore

was reading articles on detecting environmental substances and came across this article on how advance techniques has become for analysising toxic chemicals in our body. This specialty area is important for forensics like CSI where they try to find out as much as possible on the deceased and tracing the murderer from chemicals/substances from the victim's body.

In this article "Biomonitoring and Biomarkers: Exposure Assessment Will Never Be the Same" by Dennis Paustenbach and David Galbraith , there was a section to discuss about what you can find in the breast milk....

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Breast milk. Breast milk can often provide significant information about fat-soluble chemicals in the environment. Nearly all of the industrially significant fat-soluble chemicals, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), brominated flame retardants [polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs)], and dioxins/furans can be measured in breast milk. Samples of breast milk are relatively easy to collect and may reflect historical exposures to lipid-soluble chemicals found in the environment. Diet plays a significant role, with many of the chemicals in breast milk arising from a mother’s consumption of fish, meat, or dairy products. These can contain small amounts of persistent, lipid-soluble chemicals coming from deposition of dust,
vapors, or ash emitted from incinerators and nearly every form of combustion, including automobiles and furnaces.

Exposures to chemicals around the home and in processed foods are also easily measured in breast milk (Kamrin 2003). One can postulate that the breast-feeding infant is at the top of this exposure chain. Because the infant has such a small comparative body mass and breast milk can compose a significant fraction of the diet for the first year of life or longer,
there has been considerable interest in understanding the potential effects of these chemicals in the developing infant. However, no documented adverse effects from infant exposures to typical levels of environmental chemicals
in breast milk have yet been identified. A recent workshop explored a number of issues surrounding biomonitoring, breast milk, and risk assessment (LaKind et al. 2005).

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So mums and mum-to-be, please be wise with your food intake when breast feeding your young infant, that barrier to remove toxins and germs from your child is not really that effective in today's world. The information given by the nurses and focus groups on the benefits of breast milk maybe outdated.

Have you ever wondered why so many more kids have allergies despite having breast-fed?

busy like a bee sick like a baby

have been tremendously busy in the lab trying to rush out the samples while they are "fresh"

and also trying out a few new methods that have been advised. They were not as tough as I imagined hee hee Thank God.

Except for one part which is to filter the solution to avoid having particles inside the machine to clog up the tiny tubes, it gave me real pain in my fingers having to squeeze the liquid through the syringe, so much so that I have to bring them back for Ad to help me, of course he wasn't overjoyed to do it but he did it anyway, because he loves me!! hee hee

I also have a bolt of stomach flu, making me feel like shit and vomit, nothing seems to go down right with my stomach, looks like its a good time to slim down hee hee

that's all for not, weekend looks like a busy one again, so fast its another weekend!!

Earthquake Virgin

got an sms from a friend who works near where I stay asking If i was alright. Said his chair moved and his colleagues' table moved across the room. haha

NOPE I was way far far away in the FAR WEST of Singapore. Seems like lots were evacuated out of their office buildings, good standby protocols being practised!

I was commenting that I have never felt any tremors before!! It always happen when I was asleep or doing something active. Hence I'm a Earthquake Virgin, like Ad hahaha

Shortly later, at 2+, seated on my very sturdy stool, I felt tremors on my bum!

Yeah, no longer an earthquake virgin.

Wonder how are things at Sumatra's end....

Tiok Sabo!

HRPM me angri with some individuals who are truly irresponsible!

I'm helping to coordinate a monthly event which involves about 30 people, I have send out invites, confirm attendence, get the potluck list that they want to contribute and inform the host about the details.

Firstly, no one really responds to the email except for a few dedicated souls which is GREAT as it cuts down my "call time".

So after waiting like 4days, I have to call them up individually to check with them, good if they pick up the phone, if not, then I'll have to call again. There are some guidelines to follow when I make these calls, call after office hours etc etc which means I can call only from 7-9pm which is usually dinner time for most people but everyone's dinner time is different so its really hard to gauge.

There is this ONE individual that really piss me off. He was in-charge of the program for the night, he read the previous email wrongly and planned to be away during this event hence WHO is going to conduct the session if he's away??

So nevermind, I took up the responsibility since it was previously quite an easy job. All he needed to do was to send me the info and then I can do HIS job.

NOPE he did NOT send me anything! Irresponsible right??

Lucky I got backup!

Then when I opened the file and read the contents! WAH got to PREPARE stuff for it wan leh!! Not just go to the session and talk talk like the previous occassions!

Win aldy lor!!

Kana sabo big time!!

Aldy today's time is very precious. gotta go attend baby niece's one yr old party, old frens's gathering at 5pm, meeting at 8pm onwards.... where got time to get the materials??

I angri!
